We are delighted to share some very welcome news with our clients, partners and colleagues. Swapcom has been named Sustainability Service of the Year at the 2026 Sustainability Awards, presented by the Business Intelligence Group.
This recognition means a great deal to us, and we would like to explain why.
The Sustainability Awards look closely at what organizations have actually delivered over the previous twelve months. Entries are evaluated by a panel of experienced business executives who provide transparent feedback and detailed scoring, and the program celebrates initiatives that turn sustainability commitments into measurable, verified outcomes. This year, 63 winners were honoured across nine categories and eight countries.
We were especially pleased by how the judging panel described Swapcom’s contribution:
That distinction between commitments and results is precisely the gap Swapcom was designed to close.
Why ESG Has Become a Question of Evidence
For much of the past decade, ESG lived comfortably in the appendix of the annual report. That is changing quickly, and for good reason.
Regulators across the European Union are steadily converting sustainability from a narrative discipline into an evidentiary one. Under the incoming EU Battery Regulation, organizations will need verifiable, item level data about what they placed on the market, where it went and what happened to it at end of life. ESG reporting frameworks are moving in the same direction, towards auditable data, traceable chains of custody and numbers that hold up under scrutiny.
The practical difficulty is that many of the processes generating this data remain manual. Paper warranty cards. Spreadsheets emailed between store managers and head office. Validation steps that depend on somebody remembering to tick a box. It is very hard to audit what was never captured, and equally hard to report on what nobody digitized.
Most solutions in this space address one half of the challenge. Compliance tools handle the regulatory burden but tend to add administrative overhead. Efficiency tools automate workflows but treat sustainability as somebody else’s concern. What we believe sets Swapcom apart is that it does not separate the two. Sustainability is embedded in the core of the product and customer lifecycle rather than added at the end of it.
What Swapcom Delivered Over the Past Twelve Months
Swapcom replaces manual, paper intensive workflows with intelligent automation across registration, device sales, warranty claims, exchanges and service interactions, all within a single digital environment.
Over the qualifying period, processing time per transaction fell by more than 93%, dropping from 15 minutes to under one minute. Manual validation activities were eliminated entirely, creating workflows that are 100% digital, traceable and auditable. Customer satisfaction rose from 78% to 96%, while operational resource consumption decreased by 30%. Perhaps most tellingly, the platform scaled to more than 2,500 retail locations without requiring any additional operational headcount.
Each of these figures carries an environmental dimension that is easy to overlook. Fourteen minutes saved on a transaction represents fourteen minutes of device time, staff time and energy that is no longer consumed. Removing manual validation also removes the printed forms, the couriered documents and the physical archives that accompany them. Growing to thousands of locations without adding headcount means that growth was absorbed through better process design rather than through greater resource use.
Circular Economy, Measured in Real Transactions
The environmental case for Swapcom is clearest where the platform has been running longest. Across four years of operation, Swapcom has facilitated close to 50,000 product replacement and exchange transactions throughout its retail network.
Every one of those transactions represents a decision point. Repair, replacement, refurbishment and responsible product management sit on one side; unnecessary disposal sits on the other. By making the sustainable option also the fastest and simplest one, a QR scan and a digital approval rather than a form and a wait, Swapcom quietly shifts the default. Circular economy principles stop being an aspiration and become the path of least resistance for the person standing at the counter.
The platform has also established readiness for EU Battery Regulation 2027 requirements, expanded ESG reporting capability and strengthened lifecycle transparency through trusted verification integrations. Organizations using Swapcom are not left reconstructing data when a reporting obligation arrives, because they have been generating it as a natural by product of daily operations all along.
A Consistent Record of Recognition
This award continues a pattern rather than marking a departure. UCC was named a Finalist in the 2024 Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service, took Platinum in the Customer Service AI category at the TITAN Business Awards, won a 2025 BIG Innovation Award, and received the 2025 Excellence in Customer Service Award, the latter two also from the Business Intelligence Group.
What has changed is the lens. The same platform that judges previously recognized for service quality and AI innovation is now being recognized for environmental impact. We think that says something encouraging about thoughtful technology: designed well, it tends to produce several kinds of value at once.
Sustainability When the Grid Is Under Pressure
We are publishing this during a demanding summer. Extreme heat across Central Europe, historically low river levels and constrained generation capacity have placed unusual pressure on the regional electricity system, and organizations across Hungary and neighbouring countries have been asked to moderate consumption during peak evening hours.
Many companies are responding with temporary measures, which is entirely sensible. For UCC, the position is a little different simply because of choices made some years ago. We have operated as a remote first, paperless company since 2021, a model adopted not in response to any emergency but because we believe it is how a modern service organization should run. Eliminating paper based processes alone contributes to preserving an estimated 180 trees each year, along with the emissions associated with paper production and transport. Removing the daily commute for our teams removed a significant recurring emissions source. There is no large office HVAC load for us to switch off during a grid alert, because there is no large office.
Looking Ahead
Sustainability at UCC is a continuous journey rather than a campaign. We will keep strengthening our ESG strategy, reducing our environmental footprint, investing in employee wellbeing, and developing technology that makes the responsible choice the practical one.
Swapcom demonstrates something we believe applies well beyond our own industry. Sustainability and business performance are not competing priorities. Designed properly, they turn out to be the same project.
Our sincere thanks go to the Business Intelligence Group and its judging panel, to our clients and retail partners who trusted the platform, and above all to the UCC team whose work made this recognition possible.
